CONROE‚ TX − 11/11/2016 − Today is Veteran’s Day and an auspicious occasion to announce that MODAERO has partnered with the Stripes to Bars charity on a scholarship to be awarded at the 2nd Annual MODAERO Aviation Festival. The event will be held June 2-4, 2017 at the Conroe-North Houston Regional Airport (KCXO) in Conroe, TX. The event is a national fly-in that targets the growing Millennial demographic, which according to FAA records accounts for more than 48% of all Certificated Pilots and 78% of Student Pilots.
“We are thrilled to support Stripes to Bars and partner with them to offer young veterans the opportunity to earn their FAA Pilot Certificate,” said Brian Columbus, Founder of the festival and organizing non-profit MODAERO #NextGen Aviation Community. “Their mission is an outstanding effort to recognize and support our men and women who served us in the armed forces. Their organization helps these brave Americans take to the very skies they fought to defend. We could not be more proud to support them in this mission.”
Clayton Horney, a former UH-60 MEDEVAC pilot, Company Commander in the US Army, is the founder of Stripes to Bars a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Their mission enables qualified veterans to earn Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certificates. In doing so, they assist those Veterans transition from military to civilian life, while increasing the pilot population.
Clayton, who served two tours in Iraq while leading a platoon of 12 Blackhawk helicopters, said “We are so excited to announce that with the support of our friends at MODAERO NextGen Aviation Festival , we are adding an additional scholarship that will be awarded in Conroe, TX at #MODAERO17 !”
The application will be available at their website on January 1st, 2017 and will be open until March 31st, 2017.The recipient will receive the scholarship award at the event which is held annually at Conroe-North Houston Regional Airport, just outside of Houston, TX.
The organization uses this annual event to raise funds for year-round aviation outreach efforts. “We are developing a number of initiatives for 2017 to help raise awareness of general aviation, encourage STEM education and grow the #NextGen community of Aerospace in Texas and throughout the country. We are also looking for collaborative partners in pursuing a similar mission,” said Columbus.
